The world's first radio station is often credited to Charles "Doc" Herrold, who started broadcasting in San Jose, California. In 1909, Herrold began regular broadcasts from his station, which he called "San Jose Calling," using call letters FN, and later SJN. His station, which eventually became KCBS, predated KDKA by over a decade. Herrold's innovative work in early radio broadcasting laid the foundation for the medium and earned San Jose a significant place in radio history.
