About Sophia Lu

Sophia serves District 10 as the Chinese Community Outreach Coordinator, researching and drafting policy, strengthening relationships with community stakeholders, and leading grassroots advocacy efforts. Among her many involvements, she specializes in ethnic and youth community outreach, focusing on bringing fresh voices to government.

Born and raised in San Jose, Sophia cherishes working alongside residents to build a vibrant, more engaged city. As someone who takes great pride in her first-generation Asian American upbringing, Sophia strives to empathize with people, ideas, and experiences from all different backgrounds. She firmly believes in the power of establishing common ground through telling and listening to others’ stories, then building united coalitions to champion constituent-centric change.

A recent graduate of Leland High School, Sophia deferred her enrollment at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. to work for the District 10 office. She previously advised Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, served on the WASC Curriculum Committee for San Jose Unified, and spearheaded numerous volunteer initiatives at local nursing homes and senior living centers. Fundamentally, Sophia aspires for everyone to be knowledgeable about, interested in, and unified in making San Jose a better place.

When not engrossed deep in conversation with neighbors or brainstorming varied proposals to formulate solutions, Sophia can be found cheering on her hometown San Francisco 49ers and Golden State Warriors, hiking the beautiful Bay Area Ridge Trail, or experimenting with new fusions in the kitchen.
